Tuesday in Germany - Castles on the Rhine

]

The morning was spent cruising the area of the Rhine that has loads of castles. I won't put the names because that would take forever to figure out! Just know that they are fascinating!

This was an outbuilding of a castle, so to speak, whereby boats had to stop and pay their toll.

This is where Lorelei, the siren, woman-creature who lured sailors to their death with sweet songs!

This is the statue of Lorelei.

We docked at Boppard where we were lead on a city walking tour. This statue is in honor of a local lady who used to stand on the corner, giving out candy to the children. People continue to put candy in the statue's hand for local children to get!

In the town of Boppard, there are Roman ruins. The Roman lands stretched  to the east bank of the Rhine River in this area. You see ruins in this picture.

This afternoon, we toured Marksburg Castle, about an hour drive from Boppard. This is the only 13th century castle which was unchanged by war or reconstruction.

We toured many rooms; kitchen, weaving room, armaments, bedroom. I choose to show you the knight's bathroom. It is located off their kitchen! It is above the garden so the fallout can be utilized as fertilizer!

Obviously, these are armor from many different time frames.

The stable is being used to showcase various torture instruments.

The entrance area is carved out of the stone mountain. Imagine the horses having to walk on this floor!
